GPS Status app for iPhone and iPad
This is a very basic diagnostic tool to allow you to have a look and see what information the GPS on your iPhone/iPad is reporting.
With our CamerAlert application we received a lot of bad reviews from users who didnt fully understand how GPS works, and that it is almost impossible to get an accurate location when indoors or traveling at 125MPH in a train. The GPS needs time to work out where it is.
This is where GPS Status comes in handy. You do not just get a good/bad GPS Fix indicator, you get a full readout of all the GPS data including speed and co-ordinates. If you have a GPS connection you will also get an approximation of your current address.
Note that I have determined the following GPS Fix settings:
- Excellent Fix = less than 10M accuracy
- Good Fix = between 10 and 50M accuracy
- Poor Fix = between 50 and 500M accuracy
- Bad Fix = more than 50M accuracy
- No Fix = nothing being reported.
Most GPS issues can be resolved by getting a good GPS Fix before you start moving. This can be achieved best by having a clear view of the sky.
Remenber when the GPS fails you drop back to WiFi or Cell positioning which will be wildly inaccurate. This is not a fault of the GPS applications, but the signal that your iPhone is receiving.
Also you need to bear in mind that some applications may work perfectly well with a bad fix if all they need to do is find your general location to determine what is around you.

Ive had lots of GPS but never so accurate for such a price. It said that my position had a "Good fix" (within a 50 m radius) and that was the case after checking it with an expensive Garmin. To be so accurate with a WiFi signal is truly amazing. Thumb up!

I love apps that do what they claim they will. Ive used it a lot just to keep an eye on the accuracy of my other navigation apps.
Consider adding an elevation. I could have used it several times when hiking mountain trails in Banff National Park & wanted to know elevation change.
Seems odd to list vertical accuracy but not list an altitude. I fired up GPS Status once while camping just for an altitude but I ended up launching something else. Otherwise a perfect app.
Just installed a few minutes ago. Booted and did the job so far. Will put five stars upon further testing. 動作を確認。何日か使って問題なければ星5つにします。
Some bad moments
On my white iPhone 4 this app crashes almost instantaneously - useless, uninstalled it.
The only really simple GPS info app out there is this one.
But it crashes on launch since the last update.
Waiting for a fix.
Now it scrolls some info off the screen due to the Home and Info buttons on the side. Add adverts into the mix and I cant see all of my info as the screen doesnt scroll. Since many people will neither want nor need cameralert, some sort of dismiss button for the ad would be nice so we can use all of the real estate for the app. Its a good little app, and Id gladly pay a small fee for it to permanently remove the ads (which add up on my data plan too Btw).
The word "excellent" is spelled wrong. Should I trust the data?
Hasnt been updated since iOS4. Dose not work with Current supported iOS versions and iPhones. Apple is suppose to remove these obsolete and unsupported apps but somehow missed this one. At least its free so no one is out anything.
